Preventative
Preventative dentistry deals with the preservation of healthy teeth and gums, and the prevention of dental caries and oral disease.
Contemporary Dentistry follows the ADA recommendations which recommends you visit Contemporary Dentistry every six months for a professional teeth cleaning (prophylaxis), fluoride treatment, periodontal evaluation, and oral cancer screening. X-rays should be taken when needed.
In addition to biannual cleanings, we can apply sealants. Sealants help protect the teeth surface from decay and cavities for children and adults.
Oral HPV
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most common virus groups in the world. There are many different types of HPV, and the health risk varies depending on the type of virus. One of the high-risk types may cause an HPV infection that may lead to cancer of the mouth, tongue, tonsils and throat areas.
A simple, non-invasive test for the presence of Oral HPV is called the OraRisk HPV. This test, available from your oral health professional, can detect oral HPV infections very early. The procedure involves simply “swishing and gargling” with a sterile saline solution for 30 seconds. You then empty the saline from your mouth into a small, coded container that will be sent to OralDNA Labs for processing. Your oral health professional will receive your test results and contact you to discuss them.
Keep in mind, early detection and identification of the presence or absence of high-risk oral HPV types is good medicine. Speak with your oral health professional about whether you should be tested for Oral HPV.
